Mapping Imagined Geographies of Revolutionary Russia

PBC0221: filial love of homeland

PBC 221 conveys a visceral sense of Russian regionalists and nationalists that Russia is in essence the Volga River. The Volga is the “mother” which defines the Russian lands and connects Russians to them (W142, W517). This PBC can be quite nostalgic, often bringing the past into the present. The images of the Volga connected with this PBC can breathe a feeling of wild freedom.
