Mapping Imagined Geographies of Revolutionary Russia

PBC0278: empowerment

PBC 278 highlights pride in factories as “worlds!” (W115) in themselves where new worlds are created. The point of view is always Bolshevik and sometimes, though not always, conveying the Proletkult belief in the transformative agency of factory workers. The “smoky factories and workbenches” (W209) are the incubators or “wombs” (W111) of the new Russia that actually “create” workers and their new can-do attitude. Finally, the factory is the source of new art and new poetry (W70).
