PBC0281: sadness at destruction
PBC 281 expresses grief of a pro-revolutionary (but not Bolshevik) at the destruction of cities wrought during the Civil War. The cities have become a “burning hell” (W43). Here the poet asks, “oh why are there fires for the third year running”? (W41), and then, in another instance, asks, “How can I calm my heart?” (W42).
