PBC0234: reverence for nature

PBC 234 expresses a Siberian’s respect, even awe, for the power of Siberian nature, particularly its rivers and mountains (W277). Rivers are called “sacred” (sviashchennyi) and “terrible” (groznyi) (W415). Parts of the Altai are called the “gravestones of the Earth,” suggesting possibly a supernatural connection to the divine.
