PBC0051: despair at war dead

PBC 51 expresses despair at the deaths that the war and revolution have brought upon the nation. It describes liminal places. Instances range from World War I battle areas to fronts and paths of retreat of White Army soldiers scattering from central Russia. The scale of this PBC is empty space without the soldiers who have fallen. The political leaning of this PBC tends toward nationalism. In W17 death appears “here” as a white female shade marking Russian houses with crosses, and in W16 the world of World War I is a “sepulchral dungeon.” In W205 an instance refers to the countless deaths of White soldiers in the battle for Chita in Siberia.
