Mapping Imagined Geographies of Revolutionary Russia

PBC0048: nostalgia for homeland

PBC 48 expresses nostalgia, sometimes for the south of Russia, though not always, sometimes in the present and sometimes imagining a strange future. In one example the poet dreams of the “hot countries of my native south” while thinking of his beloved who is in frigid Eastern Siberia (W398). Another imagines a future in 1950 of a Crimea independent of the “land of Soviet deputies,” which is now overgrown and overrun by wild animals, and other states by high walls topped with barbed wire (W63).
