PBC0211: rejection of patriarchy

PBC 211 expresses firm rejection of tsarist rule in Russia for many reasons. The tsarist order not only destroyed the Russian intellectual elite through imprisonment but was so oppressive and “incompetent” that it left Russia militarily and economically unable to defend itself (W222). In one work the tsarist state is pictured as the “gloomy Devil” living in “darkness “ (W528).
