PBC0179: pride in sacrifice

PBC 179 conveys a tsarist nationalist’s feeling of intense sorrow, comparing “Holy Rus’” invaded by the Germans to a Christ figure sent to the cross (W153). After the Bolshevik coup this feeling connects to other political views—always nationalist but no longer tsarist. In an example from early 1918 Russia becomes a female martyr (W468).
