PBC0133: anxiety at war
PBC 133 provides an example of war-time uncertainty and anxiety among those watching conflict unfold in Europe during the Great War. In this example, the pivotal Battle of Salamis that changed the course of the Greco-Persian Wars of the 5th century BCE reminds one of glory and cost of victory: “Oh Europe, new Hellas,/ Save the Acropolis and Piraeus!” (W336).
