PBC 81, currently comprised of only one instance (W535), is distinguished by its feelings of admiration of the steppe and Cossacks. The wide-open, flat expanses of central and southern Russia embody Cossacks’ call for wild freedom (vol’nost’). The steppe is associated with the nomad’s untethered life.
